Marco Pantani's début with the Mercatone Uno team included a Wilier Triestina bicycle. Though bad luck struck in the Giro d’Italia, everything changed at the Tour de France and the cycling world was blinded by a yellow, red and blue bike.
Wearing the pink jersey, Fiorenzo Magni won the final stage in a sprint at Velodromo Vigorelli in the 1948 Giro d’Italia. While the cyclist’s jersey bore no sponsors’ names, the name of the winning team was embroidered in white on his shorts: Wilier Triestina.
